Fling, an Irish band combining traditional, bluegrass and rock, will play Monroes as part of the Galway Sessions on Wednesday June 13. With influences as diverse as Planxty and Led Zeppelin, the band have made a huge mark on the national and international scene. They have taken their live act to festivals such as Electric Picnic, Body and Soul, the White Horse Sessions, and the Galway Americana Festival.
Fling’s international career has also taken off in recent times. They were invited to play in Shanghai for the Chinese city’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations. They have also played a sell-out tour of northern Spain, and have toured around Denmark promoting Irish culture and music to students. In March last, they returned to China for an extended run.
The five-piece band combines tin whistle, double bass, string instruments, percussion, and vocals. Last November they released their debut album, the eponymously named Fling, which featured guest musicians including Steve Wickham, violinist from the Waterboys. Doors are 9pm and admission is €5. Tickets are available on the door or through [email protected] and 091 - 583397.
