Further remand for €3,000 drug dealing accused

A 26-year-old Rahoon woman who charged with dealing drugs worth nearly €3,000 has been further remanded on continuing bail to July 4 next.

Mairead Kiely with an address at 30 Rockfield Park, Rahoon, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday charged with two counts of possession of drugs and two counts of posession of drugs with intent to sell or supply at 30 Rockfield Park on September 18, 2011, contrary to Section 3 and Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Inspector Brendan Carroll told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed summary disposal of the matters in the district court and that the alleged value of the drugs was a total of €2,898; €2,112 of which was for amphetimines and €786 for cannabis.

“That’s nearly €3,000. I need to think about accepting jurisdiction,” said Judge Mary Fahy. Following a short adjournment, Judge Fahy said that she would “reluctantly accept jurisdiction” in the matter and that there had been concern over the amount and that the drugs are amphetamine.
