Creighton to speak on treaty in Oranmore

The Minister for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton will address a public meeting on the Fiscal Compact Treaty in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel on Monday at 8.30pm.

The event is being hosted by Fine Gael senator Fidelma Healy Eames, who will also be speaking. Other contributors to the meeting will be NUI Galway economist Alan Aherne and Chris Coughlan of the Galway Chamber of Commerce. The chair will be Rory O’Connor, former MD of Hewlett Packard and chair of GMIT governing body.

“This is a very important public information event,” said Sen Healy Eames. “I will be advocating a Yes vote principally because I believe a No vote leaves too much to chance when it comes to having access to secure funds at low interest rates if we need them.”

Sen Healy Eames will also take part in another treaty debate, which takes place tomorrow at 8am in the Carlton Hotel. Sen Healy Eames and Fine Gael TD Mary Mitchell O’Connor wil speak on the Yes side, while Sinn Féin’s senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh will argue for a No vote.
