Fired or hired?

The students of Salerno Secondary School visited Renault Galway to see first hand if Bill Cullen and his representative in Galway Cathal Byrne, needed some new apprentices.

Since November, the first and second year students have been running an "Apprentice" style competition to help support their school 50-50 draw, a fundraising campaign to help build their school hall. Half of all money raised is given back to participants as a prize and the young apprentices have used their initiative, enterprise, and creative skills to find ways to sell tickets and raise money.

Two past pupils of Salerno, Sharon Cotter, head of finance in Hewlett Packard, Galway, and Anne Murray, IDA Ireland, were also available to the candidates to mentor them and offer advice.

To date €50,000 has been raised with half this amount given away in prize money.

The students claim: “If it's sales staff Bill needs, the Salerno students will definitely be ‘hired’.”
