Not only are ratepayers facing a likely increase from what could be Galway city’s toughest budget in more than 20 years, but motorists could end soon feel the pinch as well.
The Galway City Council meets to discuss and decide its budget on Monday December 8 and it is expected that there will be a hike in the car parking rates.
It is understood that day long charges in city council owned car parks will be raised from €4 to €6. If such a proposal is made it would be understandable in what are now strained times economically, but unlikely to be welcomed by motorists. It remains to be seen if councillors would give their backing to such a move, especially with the Local Elections next year.
