Galway fire services raised nearly €3,500 in Shave or Dye charity event

Nearly €3,500 has so far been raised by Galway City and County Fire Brigades whose members recently held a shave or dye event in Monroe’s tavern in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

The idea to support the event was conceived one afternoon in the fire station administration office and grew in popularity from there. This is the first year that the Fire Service has participated in Today FM’s Shave or Dye campaign and to date a total of €3,475 has been collected.

Richard Healy, owner of Grafton Hair and Beauty in Salthill, assisted by Tina, did the honours on the night by shaving the heads of 12 volunteers after dying the heads of four city fire-fighters earlier in the day, much to the amusement of all who attended. Hilda O’Grady, owner of Fringe Benefits in Doughiska, also got in on the action dying the hair of the MC for the evening.

The highlight of the event was the leg waxing with some individuals getting enormous pleasure in paying €5 a strip to wax the legs of their colleagues. The leg waxing was carried out by Michelle from Emelles Beauty Salon in Moycullen.
