Castlegar face Kiltormer in replay on Monday

Castlegar and Kiltormer will renew acquaintance in the county hurling championship next Monday in Athenry at 6.30pm.

The city side can thank Ger Farragher for their second bite of the cherry as he shot 0-11 (0-6fs, 0-2 S/L cuts ).

They had good displays too from team captain Kevin Keane and Kilconly football star Kevin Brady at wing-back. Full forward Enda Concannon shot two crucial points in the last five minutes to bring the game to a replay.

Kiltormer had good performers in David Hayes, Keith Kilkenny and Patrick Cormican. Kilkenny was their top scorer with 0-7 (0-3fs ).

The other senior city side in the competition, Liam Mellows, were well beaten 0-17 to 1-8 by Turloughmore. County player David Collins was hampered with an ankle injury which curtailed his influence and his former county colleague John Lee did his utmost to stem the black and white tide from centre-back.

Keeper Paddy Gannon made some good saves and Bernard Fahy and Niall McInerney also did some good things. However they were inferior to Micheál Donoghue’s side which boasted scoring aces in Brian Murphy, Gary Burke and Darren O’Shaughnessy, who all shot three points.

After last weekend’s action the teams now qualified for the championship group stages are as follows: Moycullen, Gort, Sarsfields, Craughwell, Tommie Larkins, Loughrea, Turloughmore, Kinvara, Beagh, TAD.
