BRONAGH GALLAGHER, the actress, singer, and songwriter is about to release her new album, simply entitled Bronagh Gallagher, and this month will see her on tour across Ireland.
Bronagh will play Monroe’s Live on Saturday May 26 at 10pm accompanied by her band - Conor Brady (guitar ), Therapy?’s Graham Hopkins (drums and percussion ), Clare Kenny (bass ), Justin Carroll (hammond organ and wurlitzer ), Shelly and Jordan Bukspan and Paul Byrne (backing vocals ), and Michael Buckley and Ronan Dooney (horns ).
The Derrywoman first came to wide attention for her role in Alan Parker’s The Commitments in 1991. She has also starred in Pulp Fiction and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. However she is also a much respected singer-songwriter. She released her debut album Precious Soul in 2004 which earned her good reviews in publications like MOJO and a Meteor Award nomination.
Her new album has just been released and features songs written by Bronagh and also in collaboration with her cousin Caolan McLaughlin. Bronagh also produced the album which was recorded in Dublin. The songs have different setting, relating tales from Ireland, England, Paris, Berlin, California, and Mexico City.
Broanagh’s music has also earned the praise of pioneering musician and producer Brian Eno who described her as “one of the purest, clearest talents I know - a fabulous singer, bursting with raw Irish soul. Striking and original songs.”
