Bail granted for burglary accused

A 25-year-old man has been charged with a plethora of burglaries committed throughout Galway with two further charges brought against him for burglary attempts in Mayo.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how Christopher Morrison with an address at 117 Sli Geal, Ballymoneen Road, had been charged with trespassing at a house at Carrowbrowne, Castlegar, and committing the theft of Wii console and games valued at €700, €130 cash, and a Hewlett Packard laptop valued at €500, on March 5, 2012, trespassing at a house at Monument Road, Menlo, and committing the theft of €350 cash on March 3, 2012, trespassing at a house at Tonabrocky, Rahoon, and committing the theft of two black Ipods valued at €400 and a passport, as well as trespassing at a second home in the same area and committing the theft of a Canon camera valued at €200, a green Ipod valued at €150, and €200 cash on February 27, 2012.

He was also charged with tresspassing at a premises at Bunnagippaun, Oughterard, and committing the theft of an Xbox 360 video game console valued at €250 on February 1, 2012, and trespassing at a premises at Bunnagippaun, Oughterard, and committing the theft of three handheld computers total value of €950 on January 25, 2012.

Detective Garda Michael Moran gave evidence of charging the accused with trespassing at a building at Cullonaughton, Callow, Foxford, Co Mayo, with intent to commit theft on March 23, 2012, and tresspassing at a building at Boherhallagh, Foxford, Co Mayo, with intent to commit theft on March 20, 2010. He then made an application for Morrison to be remanded on his own bail to appear at Westport District Court on April 19 next for DPP directions. Judge Mary Fahy granted the application remanding Morrison on his own bail of €500.

In relation to the Galway charges Inspector Brendan Carroll made an application for the accused to be remanded on his own bail, adding that there was a possibility of further charges. He also requested that a condition be placed on the bail bond that Morrison sign on at Galway Garda Station daily between 9am and 9pm.

Judge Fahy granted the application remanding Morrison on continuing bail to appear in court again on May 23 next for DPP directions.
