Galway Ladies prepare for semis

Galway Ladies Football are preparing for a big clash with Clare in the National League semi-finals.

Despite losing out last week away to Fermanagh, the senior team have advanced to semi-final where they will play Clare in Birr on April 29. Throw-in time is at 1.15pm, and the match will be followed by the other semi-final between Kerry and Mayo.

Galway will be confident as they ramp up their training for this fixture having disposed of Clare in their third round fixture. On that occasion Galway prevailed by 3-20 to 5-11, and followed up with crucial wins over Kerry, Cavan and Tipperary before losing out to Fermanagh by 3-14 to 2-10. However Clare finished the league in third place, just three points behind Galway, while Mayo will be favourites having topped the group stages with just one draw against Fermanagh.

The winners of the final will be promoted to division one.

The minor round-robin championship campaign continued against Mayo in Ballindine on Saturday.

After easily disposing of Leitrim on the opening round, Galway fell to Mayo by 5-17 to 3-12.

Next up for Galway is a home tie against Roscommon on Saturday, with venue and throw-in time to be confirmed.

The under-14s also got their championship campaign underway on Saturday with a comprehensive 7-17 to 5-9 win at Leitrim village. They next face Roscommon at Padraig Pearses in Roscommon on Thursday next.
