Druid announces cast and dates for DruidMurphy

Druid Theatre company has announced the cast members for the DruidMurphy project, an ambitious staging of three classic dramas by the Tuam born playwright.

DruidMurphy will present Famine, Conversations on a Homecoming, and A Whistle in the Dark, and three of his Murphy’s greatest plays, which span the period 1846 to 1970. The plays will be performed around Ireland, Britain, and the USA.

The cast for the three shows is Niall Buggy, Edward Clayton, Beth Cooke, Gavin Drea, David Herlihy, Garrett Lombard, Aaron Monaghan, Marie Mullen, Michael Glenn Murphy, Treasa Ní Mholláin, Rory Nolan, John Olohan, Frank O’Sullivan, Isaac O’Sullivan, Marty Rea, Eileen Walsh, and Joseph Ward. The plays will be directed by Garry Hynes.

The tour will take in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre from May 23 to June 9; Hampstead Theatre, London 2012 Festival, June 20 to 30; Lincoln Centre Festival, New York, July 5 to 14; Town Hall Theatre as part of Galway Arts Festival, July 23 to July 28; Oxford Playhouse as part of London 2012 Festival, August 18 to 25; Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork, September 11 to 21; Station House Theatre, Clifden, September 24 and 25; Aran Islands (Inis Mór, September 27 and Inis Meáin, September 28 ), The Mall Theatre, Tuam, September 29; and The Kennedy Centre, Washington DC, October 17 to 20.

“It is such a privilege to be in a rehearsal room with one of the greatest writers in the English language and this great company of fine actors,” Garry Hynes, DruidMurphy director said. “I’m looking forward to bringing these plays to audiences across Ireland, and overseas, over the next six months.”
