Audiences of UTV hit, the Jonathan Ross Show, were treated to a ‘cúpla focail’ challenge in which Irish talking teddy bear Babóbaby outwitted the popular chat show host.
The final of the season saw the Londoner being outwitted by the stuffed toy, something that Irish comedian Dara O’Briain wasted no time time in pointing out.
Babógbaby travelled all the way from Moycullen in Galway to the UTV studios to appear on the show with Ross describing it as the “toy the market had been waiting for”. Ross had fun playing with Babógbaby at the outset of the show learning his “aon, dó, trí,” and his colours. After a challenge of shapes and colours ‘as Gaeilge’, O’Briain - in his legendary comic style - complimented the skills of Babógbaby noting that the “stuffed Irish toy is outwitting you tonight”.
Babógbaby - affectionately known as BB - was absolutely thrilled to have made his guest appearance in front of a UTV audience of more than four million viewers, treating Ross and the audience to his cúpla focail.
BB’s creator, Adrian Devane, was ecstatic that his soft toy creation - also known affectionately as BB - made its guest appearance in front of a UTV audience of more than four million viewers and charmed the host. “I am over the moon with the response of the Jonathan Ross Show. To feature an Irish speaking teddy bear on such a huge chat show is just testimony to the great product we have. I guess it also shows that innovation and hard work pay off when you put everything into a good idea or a good product you believe in.”
Mr Devane watched the show last weekend alongside his wife and two children, including five-year-old Robyn who is the voice of Babógbaby. “It was simply wonderful to watch BB come to life on the Jonathon Ross Show and to hear the Irish language being spoken by Ross and O’Briain who were having such fun outwitting each other. The Jonathon Ross show goes out in over 20 countries with a reach of over 30 million in the next two weeks so this will be great for BB, the Irish language, and other language bears. It really is a massive opportunity for us,” said Mr Devane.
Babóbaby won a Gold Award in the electronic category a the Practical Pre-School Awards and the Best Cuddly Bear award at the Toy Talk Awards, both in the UK in 2010. There are now plans to bring a Scots Gaelic and Welsh version to the market in Scotland and Wales. A 10 part TV animation series “BB agus Bella” is also set to debut on TG4 this summer and a BB app for the iphone, ipad, and itouch, and android services, are also available by just searching for ‘babog baby’ in the itunes app store and in the marketplace store.
