Compántas Lir brings classic play to Town Hall Theatre this Friday and Saturday

Local drama group Compántas Lir brings its awardwinning production of the classic American comedy The Curious Savage to the Town Hall Theatre in Galway this weekend.

The play will have its only Galway city run at the Town Hall Theatre this Friday and Saturday March 30 and 31.

The Curious Savage by John Patrick tells the story of Ethel P Savage, a woman whose husband recently died and left her approximately ten million dollars. What would you do if your stepmother intended to give away your inheritance? In the case of Mrs Savage , who wants to help others realize their hopes and dreams, the stepchildren have her committed to a “home,” The Cloisters.

US Senator Titus Savage, Judge Samuel Savage, and their chic, celebrity sister Lily Belle expect that this will “bring her to her senses.” But their desperate act serves to strengthen Mrs Savage’s resolve, for at the home she meets kind and gentle people who are having trouble adjusting to life, the very people who would benefit from the help she can provide.

Chaos ensues when the guests in the house conspire to help their new friend.

The Curious Savage stars Liz Hession, Declan Varley, Ruth O’Driscoll, Dermot Hession, Grainne Ni Alluin, Philip Cribbin, Breda Hannon, John Heneghan, Caoimhe McLaughlin, Breege Conneely, and Clement Shevlin and introduces young actress Saoirse O’Loughlin.

It is directed by Ann and Paddy Greaney, and has for the past month been touring the country on the national festival circuit, picking up a multitude of awards for acting, set design, and costumes.
