Trial for man charged with €101,000 jewellers shop robbery

A man charged with allegedly stealing more than €101,000 worth of watches during a robbery a city centre jewellers over three years ago has been sent forward for trial.

Gavin Carabini (28 ) with an address at 18 Our Lady’s Road, Maryland, Dublin 8, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court on Monday with the robbing 28 Rolex and 18 Cartier watches, with a total value of €101,261, contrary to Section 14 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud ) Act 2001, from Hartmann Jeweller, 29 William Street, on November 28, 2008.

The court heard that Carabini had been served the book of evidence at a previous court sitting. Inspector Mick Coppinger then said that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing May 1.

Judge Fahy confirmed the order for return for trial and further remanded Carabini in custody.
