LONG RUNNING Dublin rock band Aslan are coming to Galway to play Monroe’s Live on Friday April 13 at 8pm.
Singer Christy Dignam, guitarist Joe Jewell, and bassist Tony McGuiness joined forces in 1980 as Meelah XVIII. Their greatest achievement was a brief session recorded for Dave Fanning after which they disbanded.
In 1983, the three reunited with guitarist Billy McGuinness (no relation to Tony ) and drummer Alan Downey, taking the name Aslan from CS Lewis’ Narnia series.
They enjoyed success with their single ‘This Is’ but the band imploded and it was not until 1993 that they regrouped. Since then they have never looked back and enjoy one of the most devoted and fanatical followings in the country, while Alsan songs such as ‘Crazy World’ have become fixtures on radio playlists.
