Must win for Wegians

Galwegians face a must-win fixture when they travel to Cork to face a struggling UCC in Saturday’s Ulster Bank League division 1B (2.30pm ).

Although Galwegians’ recent good form has resulted in their move up the table into seventh place, they are not yet comfortably out of the relegation zone. As a result they need to win against UCC who, with just two wins this season, are sitting bottom of the table.

Galwegians’ last outing against fellow relegation contenders UCD saw them post a worthy 38 - 17 victory at Crowley Park, and coach Colm Rigney will be looking for more of the same on Saturday to ensure they distance themselves from the drop zone.

The Galway outfit currently sits on 27 points, as do Bruff, who face a difficult assignment away to Belfast Harlequins, and UCD who travel to UL Bohemians in Limerick - therefore this is an opportunity Galwegians must grab, particularly when they face some tougher end of season fixtures.

In division 2A Corinthians enjoy home advantage over Old Crescent on Saturday (2.30pm ).

The Limerick visitors are currently in 10th place, four behind Corinthians. With just four points separating Galwegians from second-place Seapoint, Corinthians have a great opportunity to grab their eighth win and jump into the top four.

In division 2B Connemara are in a comfortable seventh place and they will have high hopes of consolidating their position when they travel to Sligo for a Connacht derby.
