O’Sullivan makes Euro grade

At the Irish long course swimming championships, which doubled up as the Irish Olympic trials last weekend, Galway SC swimmer David O’Sullivan qualified to represent Ireland for the European Junior Championships in July in Antwerp, Belgium.

The European standard was achieved by O’Sullivan in the 200 butterfly in a personal best time of 2.04.71 in which he finished second in the final and also set new u-19 and senior records. O’Sullivan also finished third in the 100 butterfly event which was also a new Connacht u-19 and senior record.

The Galway SC 4 x100 medley male relay team of Cian Duffy, Ruairi McGeever, Kevin McGlade and David O’Sullivan won the national men’s title for the event and also set a new Irish junior record.

Other podium finishes at the competition came from Cian Duffy (3rd/200 butterfly ) and Keena Walsh (3rd/200IM ) and finalist places were achieved by Kevin McGlade, Ruth Keogh, Ruairi McKeever, Oisin Duffy, Conor Smyth and Kate Finn.
