A 63-year-old Dublin man has been charged with four new charges in relation to fraudulent cheque incidents carried out in Galway city and county.
Anthony McNally with an address at 339G Oliver Bond House, Dublin 8, was brought before Galway District Court on Monday and officially charged with further offences.
Evidence was given that after charge and caution McNally gave no reply. The court heard that the defendant had been previously charged with two offences, but that one was being withdrawn, and four new charges added.
McNally is now facing charges of stealing property, namely €490, at Lough Atalia Road, Galway, and with dishonestly by deception inducing a person to cash a stolen cheque, to the value of €490, and without lawful authority or excuse being in possession of stolen property, an €490 AIB cheque, at Costcutters, St Michael’s Square, Ballinasloe, Galway, on October 16, 2011.
He is also charged with using an implement, namely an altered cheque to the value of €480 which he knew to be false with the intention of inducing another to accept as genuine, and did dishonestly by deception inducing a person to cash the altered cheque with the intention of making gain at Londis, Tuam Road, Galway, on October 2, 2011.
The Director of Public Prosecutions had previously directed for the matter to be dealt with summarily in the district court. This week, Judge Mary Fahy further remanded the defendant on continuing bail, as set by the High Court, to appear at Galway District Court on April 18 next to enter a plea.
