Sportsground set for sell out

There was more good news for Connacht Rugby this week. Lock Mike McCarthy is a replacement on the Irish squad for Saturday’s 6 Nations clash with Scotland, while six youngsters are included in the Irish u-20 squad for tomorrow night’s fixture with Scotland at Dubarry Park.

Fullback Shane Layden and wing Conor Fin, both of Buccaneers are named in the backs, while clubmate Daniel Qualter and Corinthians’ Aaron Conneely are named in the pack. In the replacements Callum O’Connell of Galwegians has been brought into the squad, alongside Corinthian scrumhalf Kieron Marmion.

At the Sportsground, Connacht are gearing up for a sell-out attendance for their RaboDirect PRO12 game against Munster on March 24.

Connacht Rugby's new head of marketing Alex Saul says there are less than 1,000 tickets remaining for the fixture which “promises to be another fantastic night in the Sportsground".

"We've had a massive increase in support this year and not only for Heineken Cup fixtures. There's a really positive vibe about the place and fans are clearly enjoying the progress being made at the Sportsground at the moment.

"It's an incredibly exciting time at Connacht Rugby. The crowds have made a huge impact on the atmosphere in the Sportsground and there is a lot of work being done off field at the moment to build on that momentum into next season. There have been some big names added to the squad for next season with Dan Parks and Nathan White joining the club, and their added experience, coupled with the re-signing of some of our brightest talents like Eoin Griffin, Dave McSharry and Tiernan O'Halloran, will make for a very competitive team next season."
