Take the Great Western Greenway challenge for Cystic Fibrosis West

This month sees the launch of a new annual fundraiser to help the Cystic Fibrosis West team to raise much-needed finance for a new specialised day care unit for people with cystic fibrosis in the west of Ireland.

The first annual event will take place on Sunday March 18 and the challenge will be to complete the Great Western Greenway, a picturesque off-road walk/cycle trail that traverses Mayo’s coast and follows the old Achill/Westport railway line. The challenge will start off from Achill Sound, pass through Mulranny and Newport, and finish up in Westport.

The distance of the route is approximately 26 miles/43km — a full marathon — but you can decide how you would like to complete it. You can walk, cycle, or both. If you are up for the challenge and want to make a difference, visit www.challengethegreenway.com and register to take part.
