MR SCRUFF, the British DJ, producer, cartoonist, and tea connoisseur, will play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh.
Mr Scruff (aka Andy Carthy ) was inspired to take up DJing during the rise in the club and rave scene in his native Manchester in the mid to late 1980s. Since then he has released four critically acclaimed albums, sold more than half a million records worldwide, and packs out venues wherever he plays.
His tea company, Make Us A Brew has also enjoyed success. His range of speciality teas became the fifth best selling grocery product in the history of Selfridges’s Food Hall.
For his DJ sets, Andy plays soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, dubstep, Latin, African, ska, disco, house, and breaks.
“As a producer I make music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour,” he says. “My cartoon drawings illustrate this website, my gig flyers, and record/CD covers.”
Check out this multi-talented Mancunian when he plays Strange Brew on Thursday March 15 at 10pm. Admission is €18/16.
