President Michael D celebrates with Galwegians RFC

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins will be the guest of honour at Galwegians RFC’s forthcoming gathering on St Patrick’s Day to celebrate the club’s 90th anniversary.

Galwegians president Noel Leader says the club is “deeply honoured” that Uachtarain na hEireann Michael D Higgins will join the “Great Galwegians Gathering” to celebrate its club’s history on St Patrick’s Day.

“We are proud of the achievements of our club over 90 years, and of course we are also extremely proud that a Galwegian was recently elected to the presidency. So I think it is very fitting that he will attend this landmark event for Galwegians Rugby Football Club.”

The event will mark March 17, 2012, as one of the busiest days in the club’s history. Earlier in the day Galwegians host city rivals Corinthians at Crowley Park in a non-stop festival of rugby with 36 teams of all age groups competing for the coveted and recently revived Glynn Cup.

In addition to President Higgins, the event will also feature John Killeen as guest speaker. John Killeen is the CEO of the club’s main sponsor Cold Chon, and the chairman of Let’s Do It Galway that brought the Volvo Ocean Race to Galway.

The Great Galwegians Gathering will commence at 7pm in the Galway Radisson Blu Hotel, and will include a full meal with live band and entertainment provided on the night.

Noel Leader is calling on all players past and present, and friends of the club to attend the landmark event.

“Galwegians have much to celebrate, and this provides a unique opportunity for friends to re-unite and reminisce about some great times past in the history of our great club.”

Tables of 10 are €750, with single tickets also available at €80. For bookings or further information, contact Brian O’Donnell 087-8208050, email [email protected], or visit www.galwegians.ie
