Search on for Rehab Galway People of the Year

The search is continuing and the closing date has been extended for nominations from the public for the 10 people who will be chosen as Rehab Galway People of the year. The presentation of those awards is now one of the highlights of the Galway social calendar and it will take place in April.

The organisers are now asking the people of Galway at home and abroad to submit their nominations for those prestigious awards before next Monday February 27. Nominations and supporting material should be sent to Ollie Robinson at Unit 5B Liosban Business Park, Tuam Road, Galway, or email to ollierobinson@ eircom.net, further information can be had at 091-756653 or 087 2437009.

According to Mr Robinson said: “The awards have again captured the imagination of the Galway public because of their impact on communities who might never have gained exposure were it not for this event.”

Only through the awards has news filtered out about the great work which has been carried out often unrecognised in city and county communities, and indeed by Galway people abroad. Last year, those who attended the awards or who read the citations to the nominees were amazed by the level of voluntary endeavour in Galway city and county. This is set to continue again in the coming year.

Mr Robinson also said that in addition to contributions to the local communities, people who have excelled as leaders or made significant contributions in areas such as enterprise and employment, education, arts, and culture, youth, sport, tourism, environment, media, broadcasting, charity work, community involvement, scientific-research, public service, entertainment, personal achievement, leadership, or other areas can be nominated.

He added that one of the unique aspects of these awards is that the field is open to anyone who wishes to make a nomination and to call on individuals, club, groups, and organisations to put forward their nominees as soon as possible.

People nominated for any award can be well known household names or equally someone not known outside local community.
