A public meeting for the Westside area takes place this evening at 7.30pm to organise a campaign of non-registration and non-payment to the Household Charge.
The meeting will take place in the Westside Community Centre and is aimed specifically at residents in Westside, Rahoon, Newcastle, Dangan, and Shantalla, but all are welcome to attend.
Speakers from the local campaign will be on hand to answer any questions relating to the new charge and to outline how the charge can be defeated.
“The household charge will not fund local authorities. We will receive no new services for our money, and the charge will rise 10-fold in the coming year or two,” said anti-household charge campaigner John Walsh.
“We need to nip this in the bud and the easiest way to do that is to refuse to register and refuse to pay. Less than five per cent of those required to register have done so, and the scenes are set for a hugely successful campaign of people power.”
Those wishing to get involved in the campaign, or who simply want to learn more, should visit www.nohouseholdtax.org or call the national hotline on 1890 98 98 00.
