The Galway branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust will host a public talk on squirrels tonight, February 23, at NUI Galway.
The talk will be given by Emma Sheehy, a PhD researcher with the mammal ecology group at NUI Galway. She will present a general talk on squirrels in Ireland, looking at their ecology, distribution and conservation. The work of the Irish Squirrel and Pine Marten project will also be discussed.
Ireland is home to red squirrels, which are native to Ireland, and to the invasive grey squirrel, which is threatening the survival of the red. Connacht is one of the last strongholds of the red squirrel in Ireland.
