Turning Point counselling course established in Galway

Following the success of its foundation course in psychotherapy last year, one of the country’s most prestigious training organisations in psychotherapy has now established its foundation course in counselling in Galway.

The aim of the course is to give students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of counselling and psychotherapy as well as an opportunity to practise the necessary skills in a learning environment. The course will give participants a deeper understanding of themselves as well as better insight in deciding whether they wish to pursue further training.

The course will be run by the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies (IICPS ), also know as Turning Point, one of Ireland’s foremost psychotherapy and counselling training bodies. Turning Point is based in Dun Laoghaire and provides an extensive range of educational programmes around the country, including its flagship course, the MSc in integrative psychotherapy and counselling. This MSc is awarded by Dublin City University (DCU ), and is recognised and accredited by all the relevant authorities in Ireland and Europe. IICPS also provides continuing professional programmes in the field. This is the institute’s first time to offer the course in Galway.

Michelle Whelan Kennedy, a trained and fully accredited psychotherapist and one of the founders of the award winning Galway Community Counselling, will be the main facilitator of the course. The ethos of Ms Whelan Kennedy and Galway Community Counselling is that people are experts on their own lives. “This course engages the individual with that inward journey of self awareness and self attunement,” she said. “It’s a great journey to embark on at any stage of your life – now more than ever we need spaces to listen to ourselves and others.”

The course runs from March to May. For more details contact Turning Point, IICPS, on 01 2807888, www.turningpoint.ie, or Michelle Whelan Kennedy on 086 7732880, email [email protected]
