Toyota stays out in front in January new car market

Toyota Ireland has enjoyed a successful start to 2012 with 3,422 passenger vehicles sold for the month of January, positioning it as the leading car brand for 2012 so far.

Toyota has taken a clear lead position in the Irish passenger vehicle market with a dominant 16 per cent share of new vehicle sales as stated in SIMI’s January 2012 report on registration numbers for passenger vehicles.

In addition to being sales market leader for the same period last year, Toyota was also the leading passenger car brand for 2011 with sales of 11,646 passenger vehicles, accounting for a 13 per cent total market share - an increase of 9.2 per cent over 2010. Toyota Ireland has consistently hit the top spot in the passenger vehicle market since the start of the century, ranking number one in eight of the last 11 years.

Commenting on the news, David Shannon, managing director of Toyota Ireland, said: “We’re obviously delighted about the great start we’ve had to 2012. Irish customers continue to recognise that Toyota has a well-priced, comprehensive vehicle range with great levels of specification. Secondly, we have an outstanding dealer network that is an integral part of our success. We are delighted with the customer reaction to the new Yaris and 2012 Avensis which are number one in both of their segments, with a 20 per cent and 37 per cent market share respectively so far this year.”
