IFTA win for Galway TV company

Furbo based company Magdamedia won the Best Irish Language Award for its TV drama Corp + Anam at the recent IFTA award ceremony.

Corp + Anam was nominated for five awards - Best Irish Language, Best TV Drama, Best Writer for Knocknacarra based Darach Mac Con Iomaire, who scripted Corp + Anam; along with acting nominations for the drama’s two leading actors, Diarmuid de Faoite and Maria Doyle Kennedy.

Corp + Anam took the Best Irish Language Award and the show’s director Darach Mac Con Iomaire and producer Paddy Hayes, were delighted with the win.

“I’m delighted to have been presented with an IFTA on behalf of the wonderful cast and crew of Corp + Anam,” said Mr Mac Con Iomaire. “I am particularly proud of the five nominations the series received at this year’s awards.”

“It was a real pleasure driving back over the Shannon with the IFTA,” said Mr Hayes. “It bears testimony to the wealth of filmmaking and acting talent that are working in the west of Ireland.”

There was further good news for Galway at the IFTAs with the documentary on Derry political activist Bernadette McAliskey, Bernadette: Notes On A Political Journey, directed by Lelia Doolin, winning the Best Feature Documentary award.
