Daly defends kickboxing crown

Gort kickboxer Eric "the shadow" Daly will make a mandatory first defence of his IKF European super lightweight kickboxing title on Sunday in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway.

Daly will take on the current IKF English champion Garthy Shove from Kent which will be preceded by an Ireland v England team event on the undercard.

For the first time in Ireland four fighters in the -70 kilo division from the four provinces will fight in an exciting last man standing tournament for a cash prize with Galway fighter Gary Manogue representing the west.

Tickets are available from the Menlo Park Hotel, the Black Dragon Gym in Galway, Sally Longs Bar, or any of the fighters on the card. Doors open to the public at 3.30pm with the first fight scheduled for 4pm.

In other kickboxing action 37-years-old black belt kickboxer Pat Ryan, an assistant instructor at the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club, scored the only knockout at the opening tournament of the season in Waterford on Sunday.

Ryan stopped his opponent, Alan Walsh from Waterford, while fellow black belt James Ward defeated his opponent from Thurles by unanimous decision.
