NUI Galway students will take on all that the elements of earth, wind, and fire have to offer in order to raise funds for the Galway Rape Crisis Centre and SpunOut.ie The Earth, Wind and Fire Charity Challenge 2012 will take place in March and see participating students go on a firewalk, a skydive, and a mountain climb.
The Earth Challenge will see the students undertake a sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick, which reaches a height of 762m above sea level, on March 10
The Fire element of the challenge is a sponsored Firewalk on March 15 which will involve walking barefoot across 20 feet of wood embers burning at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit without experiencing any pain or injury.
In the Wind challenge the students will perform a Tandem Freefall Skydive from 10,000 feet from the skies above Galway Bay. The skydive will take place in early March.
The students will be taking to the streets of Galway this Saturday for their annual charity collection day.
All of the money raised from these events will go to the Students’ Union-nominated charities for the year which are the Galway Rape Crisis Centre and SpunOut.ie
“Despite the constant cutbacks and daily challenges we all face, students are once again doing their bit to help others,” said SU president Emmet Connolly. “NUI Galway students have a very proud tradition of raising money for charities. Hundreds of thousands of euro have been raised in the past few years and this year’s novel approach is set to add more to that.”
