The Athenry Environmental Network will officially launch the town’s new Slí na Sláinte route, developed in association with the Irish Heart Foundation, next week.
The 3km walk will be launched by Councillor Peter Feeney on Sunday February 12 at 2pm, and Dr Dilis Clare will be the guide on the day.
Everyone is invited to the launch and to use the route.
The signed route starts and finishes at the railway station opposite the VEC building and passes all the major historical architectural treasures of the town including the castle, North Gate, the priory, and Lorro Gate.
The Athenry Environmental Network developed the route for the benefit of all the people of Athenry and beyond who want to improve their health and fitness. The route takes about 30 to 40 minutes to complete and the Irish Heart Foundation recommends four or five brisk walks on a route like the Athenry Slí na Sláinte per week, to maintain a healthy heart.
