Landlords in Galway city are being asked to assist in COPE Galway’s winter project in a search for a residential property to be used for its ‘Winter Initiative’.
With the winter fast approaching the Galway Homeless Forum is currently planning to open a night shelter to accommodate people who would otherwise sleep rough. “The plan for this winter was to run a night time accommodation service for a five month period from November 08 to April 09 for people who would otherwise sleep rough,” explained Martin O’Connor of Galway homeless charity COPE Galway.
“However we have not been able to find a suitable property to rent and use for this purpose and so have not been able to progress with the setting up of this service as yet”
The Galway Homeless Forum, which is made up of voluntary and statutory agencies, is today appealing to property owners in Galway city who have larger residential properties available to rent to make contact with them. The property would need to be large enough to accommodate up to 10 people and be available immediately and for a minimum of a six -month period.
