BERNADETTE: NOTES On A Political Journey, Lelia Doolan’s documentary on Bernadette Devlin (McAliskey ), will be screened in Indreabhán next week.
Bernadette will be screened by Club Scannán Sailearna in Seanscoil Sailearna on Wednesday January 25 at 8.15pm.
Bernadette McAliskey was elected to the Westminster at 21 years of age at the start of ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. In the aftermath of Bloody Sunday she was suspended from parliament for six months for physically attacking Conservative government minister Reginald Maudling in the House of Commons, after he claimed that British soldiers had opened fire in self defence in Derry.
Since then Ms McAliskey and has been a tireless campaigner on issues of republicanism, socialism and feminism. The film won the best documentary award at the 2011 Galway Film Fleadh.
