Connemara among the highlights of new campaign to woo international tourists

North Connemara is among the landscape highlights featured in a new ad campaign aimed at boosting the country’s tourism industry.

The ads, which have been filmed by Tourism Ireland as part of a three-year international campaign entitled Jump Into Ireland, feature footage filmed at Glassilaun Beach near Renvyle.

The ads are being screened on several UK satellite and terrestrial channels, including ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and Sky 1, along with French and German TV channels, cinemas in the UK, Spain, Italy, and the US, in outdoor advertising in the UK, and targeting 22 countries online.

With a soundtrack by Snow Patrol and an emphasis on Ireland’s unspoilt landscapes and friendly people, the ads are expected to reach an estimated worldwide audience of 200 million. The Jump Into Ireland campaign aims to convey a sense of playfulness and to reflect the immersive nature of a holiday here with iconic experiences and warm, friendly, people. An increase in tourist numbers was seen in Ireland last year, and it is hoped the campaign will build on this and further boost visitor numbers here.

“This new global campaign has been designed to help us build on the return to growth achieved last year, when overseas tourism to the island of Ireland grew from all main markets and grew ahead of our competitors, regaining market share,” said Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland. “While there is no doubt that recent economic turmoil has brought increased uncertainty, affecting business and consumer confidence in markets overseas, the overall outlook for travel and tourism remains positive. We are targeting further growth in 2012 and in the years ahead and our goal is to welcome over nine million overseas visitors to the island by 2015, exceeding the record year for tourism of 2007. The new campaign will play a major role in this effort as part of an extensive overseas marketing programme.”
