Ballygar hurlers face Kilkenny champions on Sunday

The Ballygar hurlers will be rank outsiders on Sunday when they head to Nenagh (2pm ) to take on St Patrick’s, Ballyragget (Kilkenny ) in the All-Ireland junior hurling semi-final.

St Patrick’s made it six in a row for Kilkenny clubs as they captured the Leinster title with ease before Christmas, winning all their three games by big margins.

Ballygar fly the flag for north Galway, having captured the Connacht title with a 2-13 to 1-5 win over Calry-St Joseph’s of Sligo in the final.

A first-half goal by Eric Walsh set Ballygar on their way and a second one by Tom Finneran in the second half put them into Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final.

The team is managed by Paddy Flynn and he is joined on the sidelines by selector Micheál Lohan and trainer Donal Franks, who is from Birr.

The team has trained 107 times since last February and they are in positive form ahead of Sunday’s tie. The team is captained by Gary Brennan.
