A 34-year-old man accused of tresspassing at a city centre computer and phone repair shop and making off with equipment and cash valued at more than €42,000 has been sent forward for trial.
Jonathan King, with an address given as 18 Gaelcarrig Park, Newcastle, is charged with alledgely entering Mobile Phone Services at 40 William Street as a tresspasser and committing the theft of an assortment of electrical equipment and cash to the value of €42,348, contrary to Section 12(1 )(b ) and (3 ) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud ) Act 2001.
At Galway District Court on Monday, Garda Paul McNulty gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused before the court sitting and that no reply was given after caution. Inspector Ernie Whyte then informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to King being sent forward for trial to the next sittings of Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing January 17.
After giving King what is known as the alibi warning, Judge Mary Fahy remanded him on bail with conditions to sign on at Galway Garda Station between 9am and 9pm three days a week, be of good behaviour, stay away from the injured parties and witness in the matter, and to have no contact either by himself or any other party with witnesses. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and not to apply for any travel documents. Free legal aid was granted plus one junior counsel.
