WHEN THE National’s Aaron Dresner heard The Dying Seconds’ eponymously titled debut album he declared it “the ferocious coming out of a great new band”.
It was a wonderful start and endorsement for this Irish band who released their second album, Glimmerers, late last year to many positive reviews.
“An excellent record that combines the broodingly intense with the warmly melodic,” declared State.ie, while The Irish Times said, “Every track here aims high and most hit the target”.
The band were originally a duo of David Cantan and Jack Quilligan, but are now a sextet with Gary Donald, Charlie Keegan, Naomi Moriarty and Mark Rooney, completing the line-up. Their music is influenced by Efterklang, The National, and Bat for Lashes.
The Dying Seconds play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday January 19 at 10pm. Admission is free. Gugai will be DJing afterwards.
