Learn to dance sean-nós in Club Árus na nGael

Monday January 16 will see the return of Conradh na Gaeilge's popular sean-nós dancing classes under the expert and patient tuition of Conamara sean-nós dancer Pádraig Ó h’Oibicín.

For anyone who has not already been hooked on sean-nós, it is an ad-hoc style of solo Irish dancing popular in Conamara that survived the strict regulation of Irish dance in the 1930s. Sean-nós is rapidly catching on again; it is individual, very stylish, and great to watch or to learn a few steps.

It is danced close to the floor; in other words you do not need to perform gravity defying leaps, which makes sean-nós a great hobby for all ages. The sean-nós dancer does not need acres of a space either — hence the old custom of dancing on the half door.

Classes are being offered to the complete beginner at 7pm, a class for the improvers at 8pm, and one for the more experienced learners at 9pm. Club Árus na nGael will also host special sean-nós dancing nights during the year when students will get a chance to perform themselves and see well known sean-nós dancers in action. The classes cost €90 for 10 weeks.
