Irish consumers are saying ‘no’ to expensive mobile phone insurance and are switching to standalone gadget insurance.
Most suppliers of gadget insurance have seen sales of insurance jump by 1,000 per cent over the Christmas period. Gadgetinsurance.ie provides worldwide accidental damage (including water ) and theft cover for various gadgets including iPhone, Android, and mobile phones, iPads, tablets, laptops, netbooks, satnavs, digital cameras, and handheld game consoles.
Typical policies cover up to five gadgets for a total insured value of €500 and for a competitive premium of €79. Premier Plus covers up to five gadgets for a total insured value of €1,000, at a premium of €139. A new platinum cover is also coming soon which can cover gadgets up to a total of €2,000 for €199. Gadgetinsurance.ie will also be offering an optional loss cover in the next two weeks.
Spending on gadgets is at an all time high with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA ) reporting that worldwide annual spending on mobile phones, iPads, computers, televisions, and other items is expected to rise by 10 per cent in 2012 to €964 billion.
