Medtronic qualify for All Ireland final

Medtronic (Galway) 2-13       Teachers (Cork) 0-05

Medtronic footballers have qualified for the All Ireland Junior Interfirms Football final after proving too strong for the Cork Teachers in the All Ireland semi-final played in Mallow recently.

The Galway outfit led from start to finish and produced a convincing performance to give them a real boost ahead of the All Ireland decider where they play the winners of the Leinster/Ulster semi-final in the New Year.

Early points from Cathal Kenny and Mike Lundy had the Connacht champions ahead before David Morris rattled home Medtronic’s opening goal after 10 minutes.

The Cork men tried hard to get back into the contest, but found the Medtronic defence resolute. They kicked two points, but further scores from Lundy, Morris and a long-range effort from Mike Farragher left the Tribes in a strong position approaching half time before Kenny and Michael McNamara edged the Galway men seven points clear at the interval.

The home side battled hard after to get back into the contest and it took some good work from Medtronic’s custodian Conan Clarke to keep them at bay.

Two points reduced the arrears to five before David Hogan wrapped it up for Medtronic with his side’s second goal as the match entered the final quarter.

It was one-way traffic thereafter with points from Kenny (2 ), Lundy, Morris, Tom Monaghan and a final effort from John O’Connor easing Medtronic into the All Ireland final.
