THIS WEEKEND sees the opening of three exhibitions in Galway city - two group shows and a solo exhibition.
Galway and Westport are the subject of a new exhibition of oil paintings by Breege Staunton which opens in the Renzo Cafe, Eyre Street, this evening at 7.30pm.
Breege’s favourite subjects are street scenes of Old Galway and Westport, painted in sepia colours. “I also love to paint little villages nestled into the backdrop of the countryside and coming from Westport, Croagh Patrick features a lot in my work,” she says.
The annual Christmas Group Show at the Norman Villa Gallery, 86 Lower Salthill, opens tomorrow at 6pm. It features work by more than 20 artists. Of special note are a series of small landscapes by Jay Murphy and new figurative and abstract work from Fr Micheál Noone. The show runs until Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Crackers art exhibition, featuring paintings by students of Geraldine Folan’s Painting Classes, will be officially opened in the Clybaun Hotel, Knocknacarra, tomorrow at 7pm.
The guest speaker at the launch will be artist Grace Cunningham. All are welcome and there will be mulled wine and mince pies. The exhibition runs until Wednesday December 14.
