Exhibitions opening this weekend

THREE NEW exhibitions open in Galway city this weekend - solo exhibitions by Jennie Moran and Una Howley, and a group exhibition at the Space Invaders Art Gallery.

Giddy With Despair by Jennie Moran opens tomorrow at the Galway Arts Centre and runs until January 27.

Her work is an attempt to dismantle places into their basic components and reassemble them so that they might function more poetically. Recently Moran has been considering the split second of despondency in this process, between the stages of recognising unfortunate barren gaps in places, and filling them.

The artist has also invited writer Donny Mahoney to respond to her ideas and work in a publication which will be available in GAC.

Shadows of Myles, a new photographic exhibition by Ardrahan’s Una Howley opens in the Town Hall Theatre bar tomorrow at 6pm. The guest speaker will be Des Kenny.

Shadows of Myles is a personal journey Una made in memory of her father. Through these black and white images, she pays tribute to working class Irishmen. The exhibition runs throughout December.

The Christmas exhibition at the Space Invaders Art Gallery, in the Cornstore Shopping Centre, opens this Saturday at 3pm. All are welcome.

The exhibition features work by photographer Reg Gordon and street artist BAQSR, as well as Dympna Curry, Paddy Darcy, Stephanie Healy, Jim Kavanagh, Dolores Lyne, Paul Maye, Margaret Nolan, and Noel Tate. Space Invaders opening times are Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm.
