Corofin u-21s tipped to overcome Salthill

Salthill-Knocknacarra take on Corofin in the county u-21 A football final on Saturday in Tuam Stadium (2pm ).

Kevin Johnston is over the Salthill team and he will be looking for big performances from Ronan Conlon, Gearoid Armstrong, Brian Conlon, Gearoid Canavan and team captain Conor Holleran.

They defeated Micheal Breathnach’s in the West Board final, but Saturday will be a big test for this very young Salthill outfit.

Brian Silke led the Corofin seniors to county success earlier this year as team manager and he will be hoping to do so the same on Saturday with the club’s u-21s.

They were impressive in their facile victory over Claregalway in the North Board final and they will look to Michael Farragher, Daithí and Ronan Burke, Ronan Steede, Alan Molloy, Cathal Silke, Colm O’Donovan and county minor Ian Burke to see them over the winning line.

Salthill have a lot of their talented club minors who won the county title (against Corofin ) earlier this year in their ranks and it will be interesting to see how they can cope with the step up to this level. A few years makes an awful difference at this grade and it would appear that Corofin have more players who are well out of the minor ranks playing in this final, whereas the Salthill team is likely to be laced with players who played minor this year.

Johnston’s team are facing an experienced Corofin outfit and many of the Corofin players have been regulars on their senior team over the past few years - hence they are tipped by most people to be too strong for their city rivals.
