Forty houses in the Claddagh, which are discharging raw sewage into the River Corrib, are to be connected to the city’s main sewerage works.
The news has been welcomed by Independent councillor Catherine Connolly who said the houses will be connected to the main sewerage scheme by way of a diversion of an existing 150mm diameter sewer to a new manhole. In addition a new check valve will be installed which will prevent salt water from entering the system.
As part of the ongoing works provision will be made for water and ESB for boat owners. Cllr Connolly said she will be maintaining close contact with the Galway City Council in relation to its assurance that the works will be completed within two weeks
