Get Christmas all wrapped up at Galway Shopping Centre and help Act for Meningitis

Do you dread the thought of wrapping all your Christmas presents? Do you wish you had someone to wrap your gifts for you? Well this Christmas the festive fairy has granted your wish.

Volunteers from Act for Meningitis, a non profit organisation, will be at the Galway Shopping Centre from tomorrow (Friday ) until Christmas Eve to wrap your gifts.

As well as gift wrapping every weekend children can write their letters to Santa Claus and post them in Santa’s post box. There will also be children’s storytelling at the weekends and iRadio will drop by to lend a hand with wrapping.

There will also be beautiful handmade cards and magical reindeer food for sale.

All money raised throughout the month will go to Act for Meningitis which aims to raise awareness and educate society about the signs and symptoms of meningitis.

The organisation was set up earlier this year by Noel and Siobhan Carroll from Oranmore who lost their daughter Aoibhe to meningitis in 2008 aged four. Siobhan has been nominated for a national Ireland’s Charity Hero Award. The Better Together Awards, which take place in Dublin (tonight ) Thursday recognise people who have made an “extraordinary” difference in their community.

Hosted by Mary Kennedy of RTÉ and with special guest Gavin Duffy of Dragon’s Den, the awards ceremony will see the Galway mother compete against nine other nominees for the outstanding award.

“I am so excited to be nominated for the award and win or lose, I am honoured to be considered a ‘charity hero’,|” she says.

The family has been overwhelmed by the support and kindness of the public. With events planned for the rest of the year and major awareness campaigns being launched in 2012, the Carrolls and their team of volunteers say they are ready to “make a difference”.
