Do you remember sayings like ‘once a man twice a child’ or ‘Christmas brings out the best in us’? Well these sentiments are very much alive in McGaugh’s Christmas showrooms in the garden centre on the Headford Road. Whether it is walking through the forest of artificial Christmas trees or looking at the wondrous display of blow-moulded Santas and snowmen you cannot help but allow yourself be carried away by the joys of Christmas.
Staff at McGaugh’s started work on the display as early as last February when they put in their first orders for Christmas 2011. The work has paid off and they have provided one of the best displays yet. Work began in earnest in early September when they closed off the upstairs showroom and began emptying it of furniture in anticipation of the first Christmas delivery. The company once again decided to divide its showroom into several smaller rooms. This adds to the sense of anticipation you feel as you walk around the displays. This is a feature that has fascinated children and adults alike. You never know what you will come across next, be it a 6ft tall polar bear or the display of Christmas lights. Work continued throughout September and October and staff were right on schedule when they opened the doors to the Christmas 2011 showroom last month. It was a low-key opening but still it attracted a lot of interest over the weekend, and had seen a steady flow of people since then and the feedback has all been positive.
When you pass the garden centre on the Headford Road you cannot help but notice the 26.5ft tall snowman. Frosty, which is taller than the shop, has been attracting a lot of attention with people coming from all parts to take a picture of, and with, him.
McGaugh’s also opened its coffee shop two weeks ago, so customers can now take a break from shopping and sit down with a nice cup of tea or coffee and enjoy a homemade scone or apple-tart, or a homemade bowl of soup. All are available in the coffee shop upstairs in the garden centre.
