The student unions for Galway Mayo Institute of Technology and NUI Galway have joined together today to protest against attempts by the Government to increase student fees.
GMIT SU and their supporters are due to assemble at GMIT on the Dublin Road at 11.30am and march to Eyre Square where they will meet fellow students and protesters as well as NUIG SU an hour later.
Together they will begin their march down Shop Street making their way to the constituency office of Derek Nolan TD, located beside The Harbour Hotel.
It is understood that a picket and protest will then take place outside the constituency office. According to GMIT SU communications manager, Brendan Kenny, the purpose of the demonstration is to “urge Deputy Nolan and the Labour Party to keep their promise and protect the future of Ireland’s education system”.
