BPW to host the region’s best public speakers in city this weekend

This year BPW Galway has expanded the popular Public Speaking Competition to all reach out to schools across the Connacht region and in doing so are proud to announce seven teams will be participating in this year's event in taking place in Galway on this Saturday November 12.

The Public Speaking Competition is delivered in the guise of a meeting format and it is the only one of its kind in Europe making it unique and informative – it provides specific mechanisms for the students to sharpen their skills running a meeting, providing the opportunity to nurture the skill of speaking in public and addressing particular issues or topics during that meeting.

BPW Galway are delighted to have the support of Galway Crystal who will be sponsoring a beautiful perpetual BPW Crystal Trophy to be presented to the winning team.

The participating teams are as follows: Mercy College Sligo, Presentation College Tuam, Davitt College Castlebar, Holy Rosary College Mountbellew, Presentation College Athenry, Colaiste Einde Galway, and Gort Community School.

This year's winning and runner-up teams will go forward to represent Galway at the BPW National final to be held at the Marine Hotel, Howth, County Dublin later in November.

BPW Galway President Michelle Murphy said at the launch of this competition that ‘this annual BPW event has grown from strength to strength and BPW both locally and nationally see this as a wonderful opportunity to help the students equip themselves with the confidence and also know how to structure and conduct a meeting thus preparing them to enter the world of employment in the future’.

She further commented that ‘each year the calibre of the speakers participating is exceptional, the preparation in following the guidelines provided is wonderful and the overall choice of topics presented are both varied and researched thoroughly providing well-rounded insight into the topics chosen by the teams to present’.

BPW Galway are inviting you to attend the event which will be held in the Ardilaun Hotel on Saturday November 12 commencing at 10am – they are urging you to support the schools as they go head to head to take a spot in the National finals in Howth.

If the past presentations are anything to go by then this year's competition will be one not to be missed so mark your calendars and come and support the students on the day.
