The League of Ireland first division season concludes on Saturday with the two Galway representatives hoping to record results that will see them climb one place in the table.
Salthill Devon, currently bottom of the standings on goal difference, travel to Ferrycarrig Park to face Wexford Youths with Paul McGee's side knowing that a win will move them ahead of the south east outfit. That is a significant incentive as Salthill would be reasonably happy to avoid a basement finish again.
Last Saturday evening at Drom Salthill were eventually defeated by Shelbourne, who sealed their promotion when hammering Finn Harps on Tuesday, but McGee was encouraged by aspects of the Devon display. Cian Fadden, Colm Horgan, Brian Geraghty, Eugene Greaney, Robbie Porter, and Brian Gaffney will occupy important roles for Salthill when they hit Wexford at the weekend.
Mervue United, who entertain Harps at Fahy's Field, require Monaghan United to do them a favour at Lissywollen if they are to move into seventh in the table.
Johnny Glynn's charges also need to claim a draw or a win themselves to have a chance of leapfrogging Athlone Town, but they are sure to embrace the challenge enthusiastically. Dave O'Brien, James Casserly, Jason Molloy, Pat Hoban, and Alex Lee have critical roles to play for Mervue who, regardless of the outcome, can reflect on an improved campaign at this level.
