Shantalla Neighbourhood Watch to be re-established in near future

The Neighbourhood Watch in Shantalla is set to be re-established, a move which has been warmly welcomed by local councillor Colette Connolly.

Cllr Connolly, who is also vice-chair and PRO of the Shantalla Residents Association, has announced that the Neighbourhood Watch scheme is be initiated following a public meeting held recently in the Shantalla Community Centre.

During the meeting which was organised by the Residents’ Association and was held in conjunction with the community garda Nora Brady, it was very much stressed that the reinstatement of the Neighbourhood Watch in the area would be welcomed, particularly given the number of recent incidents that have given cause for concern.

Volunteers from each road in Shantalla have formed a voluntary committee which will meet quarterly and organise public meetings with the gardai in relation to issues of safety in the area. A lot of emphasis has also been placed on the need for residents to improve home security and to be alert to unwanted visitors and the need to tackle illegal parking in the area. The committee will work with gardai to update residents by way of a newsletter on a regular basis.
